BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh strongly condemned the AAP government's fiscal management that has resulted in an alarming rise in revenue deficit in the first half of the current fiscal year.
He said the Bhagwant Mann government has disastrously failed the state economy that has caused a revenue deficit of Rs 18,303 crores reflecting the government’s complete failure in managing the state’s finances responsibly.
Chugh pointed out that despite a projected budget gap of ₹23,198 crore for the entire financial year, 79% of this deficit has already been reached within just six months, putting an enormous strain on the state’s economy. It is deeply concerning that 78% of the ₹60,011 crore expenditure has been funneled into committed liabilities like subsidies, salaries, and pensions, leaving Punjab starved of essential resources needed for critical development projects that the people of the state are in desperate need of. Chugh slammed the government for prioritizing populist measures over the state’s long term financial health.
Further attacking the AAP government’s incompetence, Chugh stated, “This government has miserably failed to generate sufficient revenue to meet its lofty and unrealistic promises, pushing the state into deeper financial ruin. The fact that the revenue deficit to fiscal deficit ratio stands at a staggering 86.66% underscores the deep rooted financial distress that has engulfed Punjab.” He added that AAP’s reckless poll promises of freebies, combined with its utter lack of financial discipline and planning, have driven the state into this horrible financial state. “It’s high time that the AAP government is held accountable for their fiscal irresponsibility that is risking Punjab’s future development,” Chugh remarked.
