The Spearhead Sappers (8-Engineer Regiment) of Rayang Military Station today celebrated Onam festival with traditional fervor with some of the residents of Rayang and neighboring locations. The blending of cultures witnessed today further strengthened the bonhomie and camaraderie between the locals and troops of the Indian Army.
The troops welcomed the locals in traditional way wearing traditional attire. The auspicious occasion marks the return of the great King Mahabali. The celebrations included depiction of King Mahabali and the story behind the festival, a cut out of the famous boat race that the state of Kerala is known for and Onam Sadhya, the traditional food with south Indian spices, thus giving the local folklore a glimpse of the heritage and tradition of the Southern States. The local people were visibly impressed of the ethos and tradition depicted and could connect with many customs and traditions.
The joyous Onam festival lasts for ten-days and during these ten days, it represents a remarkable and amazing display of the culture of Kerala. It is one of the most significant harvest festivals that remind us of the importance of food, agriculture and farmers’ hard work. Onam significantly brings back Keralites to their home and spreads the message of unity and prosperity across the world.
Among other prominent personalities, East Siang SP Sumit Kumar Jha, 5th IRBn CO Aishwarya Sharma and Jonai ADC Pradeep kr Diwedi graced the occasion and extended greetings hoping that the vibrant festival would bring peace, happiness and prosperity for all.
