Uday Umesh Lalit is 49th and current Chief justice of India . Justice Lalit took oath as CJI of India on 27th August 2022.                        Sworn in as the 49th chief justice of India on Saturday.Justice Lalit intends to work on three core areas , including listening of cases and mentioning of urgent matters in supreme court during 84th day tenure as the head of judiciary.Justice Lalit who became the second CJI to be directly elevated to Apex court bench from bar,had on highlighted the three areas . Justice Lalit will have a brief tenure of less three months as CJI , and would release on November 8th 2022.The retirement age of judges of supreme court is 65 year.
