Bengaluru: An important milestone in the study of Tibet was reached on September 2, 2024 with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Centre for National Security Studies (CNSS), MS Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences (MSRUAS), Bengaluru and the Tibet Policy Institute (TPI). TPI is a think tank and research-oriented intellectual institute under the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), based in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh. The MoU aims to further Tibetan studies through collaborative research and academic exchanges.

This partnership marks a significant step towards strengthening academic and research ties between CNSS and TPI. The collaboration will focus on joint research initiatives, create awareness about Tibet among university students, researchers, doctoral scholars and civil society as also the development of academic exchanges that promote a deeper understanding of Tibetan culture and history.

Speaking on the occasion, Maj. Gen. J V Prasad (Retd.), Director of CNSS said, “This MoU represents a significant milestone in our efforts to enhance research and academic cooperation in the realm of Tibetan studies. We look forward to working closely with TPI to explore new avenues of knowledge and understanding.”  

Mr. Dawa Tsering, Director of the Tibet Policy Institute, highlighted the profound impact of Buddhism, which originated in India, on Tibetan culture and spiritual traditions. He also emphasized India’s commitment to preserving ancient traditions and democratic principles.

The signing of this MoU underscores the commitment of both CNSS and TPI to foster academic excellence and contribute to the broader understanding of Tibetan issues on a global platform.
