Tezpur : Along with the rest of the state, Lok Kalyan Divas was observed by Sonitpur district administration at a meeting held at the new conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s office here today. Minister for Excise, Transport, etc., Parimal Suklabaidya was present as the Chief Guest on the occasion. Also present were MLA Tezpur Prithiraj Rava, Deputy Commissioner Deba Kumar Mishra, Chairperson, Sonitpur Zill Parishad, Dolly Surin, CEO, Zilla Parishad, Karabi Saikia, Chairperson, Tezpur Municipal Board, Prajnanoo Bhattacharyya, social worker Batash Orang, senior district administration officials, leading citizens and staff of the Deputy Commissioner’s office establishment.

At the very outset, floral tributes were offered at the portrait of Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi, on the occasion of his death anniversary today. The Lok Kalyan Divas is being held to commemorate the death anniversary of Bordoloi, who was the first Chief Minister of Assam.

 On the occasion, the Minister gave away the Lok Seva Puraskar to three non-Gazetted employees of the district, namely, Medini Borah, Senior Assistant, O/O Deputy Commissioner, Bhabananda Choudhury, Driver, O/O Project Officer (Crash), Intensive Egg and Poultry cum Marketing Centre, Tezpur attached to the office of the Deputy Commissioner and Bhagya Ram Mech, Peon, O/O Deputy Commissioner who have been selected for their work ethics, punctuality, integrity by a state level selection committee. Altogether, 89 district level employees across Assam and 10 state level employees have been selected for this award.

The awardees received a citation, a cash award of Rs. 25,000 and a one year extension of service beyond the retirement age.
