Bhartiya Janta Party National General Secretary Tarun Chugh condemned the AAP Government in Punjab for its failures, particularly in how law enforcement authorities have handled the Lawrence Bishnoi interview case. Chugh pointed out that the developments, as highlighted by the Punjab and Haryana High Court, expose a total lack of accountability and transparency within the state administration under the AAP government.
Chugh further criticized the SIT, stating that it had not only failed to conduct a thorough investigation but had also shown complete disrespect for due process. Despite multiple status reports, the cancellation report was hurriedly submitted to the Mohali Judicial Magistrate without any adequate explanation and, most shockingly, without informing the High Court in a timely manner. Chugh remarked that this disregard for judicial procedure is totally unacceptable.
Chugh criticized the AAP Government for its negligence in ensuring that its legal counsel and investigative authorities uphold the rule of law. The state’s inability to provide a reasonable justification for the undue haste in filing the cancellation report raises serious concerns about the integrity of the investigation. Chugh further highlighted that the investigation’s conclusion, which found Bishnoi had engaged in criminal conduct, yet characterized it as non-cognizable, was a clear failure in recognizing the gravity of the offenses.
Chugh accused the AAP government of repeatedly failing to maintain law and order. He stated that even in handling sensitive criminal matters, it has become evident that the government is more concerned with protecting individuals than seeking justice. Chugh emphasized that the High Court’s observations of misconduct and negligence of duty within the SIT are a reflection of the Punjab Government’s careless approach to governance.
Demanding immediate action, Chugh called for a thorough review of the investigation and urged the AAP government to take responsibility for these lapses. He remarked that the people of Punjab are watching and have witnessed the AAP government’s failures in delivering justice, transparency, and accountability since it came to power.
Chugh urged the judiciary to continue its scrutiny and ensure that those responsible for this botched investigation are held accountable, as the people of Punjab deserve better governance and law enforcement.
