A link-man of the banned United Liberation Front of Asom- Independent (ULFA I) was arrested by the Assam Police on Tuesday in Jorhat district of Assam. The accused has been identified as Maina Borgohain, and was caught from Kokajan. According to the sources, Maina Borgohain allegedly helped the ULFA-I militants in the ambush attack against the Indian Army. This incident took place on Monday at Tinsukia district of Assam. The police stated that further investigations are still on to dig up more linkages in the matter. On 15th November the proscribed ULFA-I admitted the sudden attack on an Army patrol party in Tinsukia on 14th November 2022. The banned out stated that, the ambush was codenamed as 'Operation Lakhipathar' and it begun to mark ' Protest Day ' which is observed on 28th of November.
On Monday morning, the army team was suddenly attacked by a militant force on the Pengeri Digboi Road in Barpathar area. The militant group exploded an IED ( a bomb used by unofficial forces ) on the mine protected vehicle (MVP). They continuously fired for 30-40 times according to sources. The army officials stated that, nobody was hurt during the firing, the militant group only succeeded in puncturing the tyre. At least 1 member of the ULFA-I was injured as there were blood stains in the forest area, added the army officials.
An Army spokesperson said that a combined force of police along with tracker dogs and special equipment, rushed to the area immediately after the incident. Unfortunately, they could not get in contact with the militants. They attackers left behind a few items like batteries and food.
Contrary to the army official statements, the ULFA-I claimed that several security personnel were injured and the MPV was damaged. And they did not mention anything about the injured military cadre.
