In a major step towards the preservation, packaging and marketing of food based items from the Northeast region of India, the largest cold storage facility of the region was officially inaugurated today by the chief minister of Assam. This cold storage facility will definitely help farmers and traders of the region. The facility has a capacity of 550 MT to 575 MT in each chiller and freezer room respectively.
It is designed to store a variety of products including vegetables, frozen food items, milk and dairy products and seasonal fruits. Tertiary facilities including staff accommodation, canteen, restrooms, drinking water facilities, weighbridge and reach trucks are also present in the facility.
"Our Government has been paying considerable attention to building the necessary infrastructure for the market of agricultural commodities for the convenience of farmers and traders in the State As part of our tireless efforts in this direction, I am pleased to officially inaugurate a cold storage with a capacity of 5,000 metric tonnes at a cost of Rs. 24.75 crores at Chaygaon today," said Himanta Biswa Sarma.
