First Dr. B.C.Gogoi Memorial Oration organized by the Department of Pathology,AMCH
As part of the ongoing Platinum Jubilee Celebrations of Assam Medical College and Hospital, the Department of Pathology, AMCH organized the first Dr. B.C.Gogoi Memorial Oration and CME on "Rational Use of Blood" on 14th September, 2022 at the OIL Lecture Hall Complex, AMCH.
Dr. Bijoy Chandra Gogoi (1943-2021), who was also known as the doyen of Pathology in Assam, did pioneering work in the field of hemoglobinopathies. He was the Professor & Head of the Department of Pathology, Assam Medical College and one of the leading men in the field of Pathology in north east India.
The event was inaugurated by Dr. Sanjeeb Kakati, Principal cum chief Superintendent, Assam Medical College. Mrs Abha Gogoi, wife of Late Professor Dr. B.C.Gogoi graced the occasion accompanied by her son, Mr. Pallav Gogoi, daughter in law Mrs. Divya Mili Gogoi and her granddaughter. She was presented with a citation of felicitation for Dr. B.C.Gogoi along with a xorai and gamusa by Dr. Adity Sharma, Professor and Head of the Department of Pathology, AMCH. The oration was delivered by Dr. Nabajyoti Choudhury, Director of Cancer Care Centre, Dibrugarh. Another talk on " Anemia beyond Iron Deficiency and its management" was delivered by Dr. Abhijit Phukan, hematologist from Apollo Excelcare Hospital, Guwahati. This was followed by a panel discussion on "Multiple Blood Transfusion: Whole blood vs Component- What should be preferred."
The event was a huge success with over 200 participants from the different departments of Assam Medical College and Hospital and medical professionals from Dibrugarh District.
