Tezpur, Sept 3: Assam government has launched another massive eviction drive in Chitalmari of Barshala constituency in Sonitpur district since early morning.
Huge security forces have been deployed for the eviction .
However, many of the occupiers left their houses before the eviction. About 299 families have been evicted from their settlements. The government today evict the encroached land and will set up a solar power projects.
About 1,000-bigha of land in Barchala constituency in Sonitpur district was ordered to be evicted on December 15, 2021 , but many people have since moved away .
The Assam government is also working to set up a solar power project on the land. The government has not issued any directive for the eviction of Bacha Shimlu, which is a threat to the nearby Orang National Park. The eviction operation which is going on being supervised by three Superintendents of Police and Superintendent-level officers of about 1,000 Assam Police contingents and 200 paramilitary personnel. The operation continues in a completely peaceful manner as of now .
Some people have complained that the government should have arranged a specific place otherwise where they will go.
Many people are crying as their equipment are demolished houses before eviction.
The administration said that all the people have already demolished the essential items of their houses themselves. Now the administration is only demolishing the garden trees and abandoned houses and bringing them under the control of the government.
