Bengaluru— The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Bengaluru Branch proudly announces the successful completion of its two-day Capsule Course on Packaged Drinking Water (other than PNMW) held on August 19 and 20, 2024. The program commenced at RG Royal Hotel, Yeswantpur, and concluded at Bisleri International Pvt Ltd, Bidadi, Bengaluru, Karnataka 562109.
The first day of the course featured over 60 industry professionals, including quality control personnel, chemists, microbiologists, and proprietors of packaged drinking water licenses. Shri Vijayaveeran K, Scientist E/Director and Head of BIS BNBO, delivered the welcome address, emphasizing the critical role of quality in business success and acknowledging the program as a free capacity-building initiative for quality personnel. He introduced the chief guest, Dr. Anu Appaiah, Retired Senior Principal Scientist and Co-Organizing Secretary from the Food Protectants and Infestation Control Department, CSIR-Central Food Technological Research Institute, Mysuru.
Dr. Appaiah addressed key industry challenges, including the issues of misleading mineral labeling, the need for replacing NaCl with KCl to address hypertension, and environmental concerns related to plastic usage. Shri C.R. Rajendra, Former Director of BIS, provided valuable insights into BIS's quality maintenance activities and its role in fostering a quality-driven ecosystem. Shri Piyush Kumar Gupta, Scientist B/Assistant Director, BIS BNBO, discussed certification processes, including license grants, renewals, and guidelines for addressing unsatisfactory visits and sample failures, alongside detailed discussions on IS 14543 and related standards.
The second day of the course took place at Bisleri International Pvt Ltd, featuring an in-depth practical demonstration of the plant’s operations. The practical session provided participants with valuable insights into the operational aspects of the plant, enhancing their understanding of Packaged Drinking Water IS 14543:2024 requirements.
Feedback from attendees highlighted the exceptional organization of the course and the usefulness of the comprehensive course materials booklet provided. The participants appreciated the program’s role in improving their operational knowledge and acknowledged BIS’s commitment to advancing industry standards through such educational initiatives.
