Tezpur University Celebrates 76th Independence Day

Tezpur University celebrated the 76 Independence Day on August 15, with a flag hoisting ceremony followed by a cultural programme. Vice-Chancellor of the University Prof V K Jain hoisted the National Flag and addressed the people gathered for the celebration. 

A cultural programme was organized where students of Tezpur University, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Tezpur University and pupils of Tezpur University faculty/staff performed patriotic songs, dances and drama play. The NCC cadets presented the Guard of Honour to the VC, which he inspected before hoisting the National Flag. The NSS coordinators assisted in the successful execution of the programme. 

To mark 75 years of Indian Independence, Tezpur University organized several events in the past week which culminated in the celebration of Independence Day on August 15 under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. The University organized Quiz and Essay competitions for the students of the University on August 11, 2022, the prizes of which were distributed during the Independence Day Celebration. On the morning of August 12, a Prabhat Pheri was taken out by the members of the NSS Cell, Tezpur University. Under the able guidance of the NSS Coordinator, Dr. Amiya Kr. Das, a huge number of enthusiastic students organized a cycle rally, displaying the National Flag on their cycles and chanting “Bharat Mata Ki Jai”. 

Every morning from August 12 till August 15, Prabhat Pheries were organized by the members of NSS, where they rode out of the University campus to the nearby villages. A football match between the Tezpur University fraternity and students was also organized on August 12. 

In commemorating the “Har Ghar Tiranga” Programme of the Govt. of India, Tezpur University hoisted National Flags at every academic department, office and residential hostel on the University campus in August 13. The flags were displayed continuously for three days, vis-à-vis from August 13 till August 15. The residents of the campus also joined hands to hoist the tricolour in their residences and make the “Har Ghar Triranga” programme a grand success.

Numerous sporting events were also organized to celebrate Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav following the University’s tradition of holding sporting competitions in the previous Independence Day Celebrations. These include Badminton Men’s and Women’s doubles and Swimming competitions for children, men and women. The Department of Mass Communication and Journalism presented a street play named “Vaad Vivaad” on August 13 at the University campus. The street play spread awareness about online monetary fraud and the role of the media in national unity and prosperity. On the same day, NCC cadets under the able guidance of Dr. Hitesh Sharma organized a plantation drive on the University campus. In coordination with the Horticulture Section of the University, they planted numerous saplings at several locations on the campus to promote environmental protection and climate change.

 The NCC cadets also distributed National Flags to the students of a nearby school, namely Napam MV School on August 13. The NCC and NSS volunteers distributed 1000 nos National Flags in the nearby villages of Napam, Amolapam and Harigaon to promote the “Har Ghar Tiranga” Campaign. The flags were made from Khadi cloth and hand woven by local weavers of Assam. 

On August 14 Tezpur University organized an exhibition on the Partition Horror Remembrance Day, where original photographs from the partition were put on display. The event was attended by Prof V. K. Jain, Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof D. K. Bhattacharyya and Registrar Dr. Biren Das of the University. The event was joined by students, faculty, staff and other campus dwellers of the University.

The Independence Day Celebration on August 15 ended with the vote of thanks by Prof Pabitra Nath, Chairperson Independence Day organizing committee. He thanked all the faculty members, staff and students involved in organizing the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and Independence Day celebrations.
