Embattled IPL founder Lalit Modi today launched a fiery attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi following his conviction in a defamation case and subsequent disqualification as Lok Sabha MP. In his series of tweets this morning, Lalit Modi said that he will take the former Congress MP to court.
He also questioned on which grounds he was being labelled as a "fugitive" and said that he has never been convicted and hence is an ordinary citizen. Further, he slammed Opposition leaders and alleged vendetta.
Lalit Modi added, "I have decided to take Rahul Gandhi to court in UK right away. I am sure he will have to come up with some solid evidence. I look forward to seeing him make a complete fool of himself."
In April 2019, Lalit Modi had said he would sue Congress chief Rahul Gandhi for his "all thieves have Modi in their surnames" remark. Rahul Gandhi had said recently at a rally in Maharashtra, as he accused PM Modi of corruption: "I have a question. Why do all the thieves have Modi in their names whether be it Nirav Modi, Lalit Modi and Narendra Modi? We don't know how many more such Modis will come out."
Rahul Gandhi was convicted by a Surat court in a defamation case over Modi remark and was sentenced to two years in jail. He was granted bail soon after the verdict and was allowed 30 days to appeal before a higher court.
