Veteran Actor Vikram Gokhale breathed his last on Saturday at a Pune-based hospital where he was undergoing treatment following a multiple organ failure in early November. He was 77. An official statement from hospital authorities read, "We are saddened to announce that the noted actor Mr Vikram Gokhale passed away today at Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital due to multi organ failure. Our deep condolences."

As per information, the last rites of the veteran actor will be performed on Saturday evening. A family friend said, "His body will be kept for antim darshan at Balgandharv Auditorium. Final rites will be performed at 6pm at Vaikunth crematorium in Pune."

As per doctors treating Gokhale, his health deteriorated further on Saturday and was back on BP medication support and ventilation. It may be mentioned here that earlier this week there were rumours afloat in the social media of Vikram Gokhale's death following which popular Bollywood actors Ajay Devgn, Riteish Deshmukh, and Jaaved Jaafery among others tweeted condolences. His family later clarified that these were rumours

Before making his debut in Bollywood at the age of 26 in Amitabh Bachchan-starrer Parwana (1971), Gokhale had already established himself as an acclaimed actor in Marathi theatre and cinema.

In his largely celebrated career spanning over 40 years, the veteran actor acted in some notable hits like Agneepath (1990), Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999), Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007), Natsamrat (2015), Hichki (2018), and Mission Mangal (2019). During this time, he also appeared in several television shows.

The actor earned the National Award for Best Actor in 2010 for his work in the Marathi film Anumati. He made his directorial debut with the Marathi language film Aaghaat released in 2010.

Vikram Gokhale was last seen alongside Shilpa Shetty and Abhimanyu Dassani in Nikamma which hit the big screen in June this year.
